From the research department (Peggy George)

This looks like something right up your alley. :-) Have you tried it?

I learned the details on Konrad Glukowski’s blog. It’s an amazing strategy for engaging older students! http://www.teachandlearn.ca/blog/2008/06/02/avoid-school-talk-part-1/

This is the link to the Mixwit site. http://www.mixwit.com/

It’s your mix, so make something unique. Add pictures, photos, artwork, drawings… Anything you want. Make a mix of your favorite songs and artists. Post your mixtape to MySpace, Facebook, Blogger, and others. You can post it on a blog, wiki or website too.

So… I tried it. If the tape below doesn’t play, click this link.

An email form Helen Padgett…

Hi Shawn,

Based on our discussion on Friday, these are some of the important links.

The Flat Classroom Project - Julie Lindsay and Vicki Davis http://flatclassroomproject.wikispaces.com

The Project uses Web 2.0 tools to make communication and interaction between students and teachers from all participating classrooms easier. The topics studied and discussed are real-world scenarios based on ‘The World is Flat’ by Thomas Friedman.

The Flat Classroom Project 2006 is featured in the latest edition of Friedman’s book in Chapter 13, ‘If it’s not happening it’s because you’re not doing it’, page 501-503.

One of the main goals of the project is to ‘flatten’ or lower the classroom walls so that instead of each class working isolated and alone, 2 or more classes are joined virtually to become one large classroom. This will be done through the Internet through Wikispaces and Ning.

The Horizon Project is another one to follow each year. - http://www.nmc.org/horizon

Also from Helen a link to the book Web 2.0 From Curious to Competent -

Did a bit more work on the Web 2.0 Class about 85% complete.
